Polyurethane Dispersions for Flexible Packaging

Waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) are widely used as high-performance binders in inks and overprint varnishes for flexible packaging. They combine mechanical strength, film integrity, abrasion resistance and flexibility, forming durable protective layers with strong adhesion to substrates such as BOPP, BOPET, PE, paper and board.

Depending on the system, inherently matte grades enable soft-touch and low-gloss finishes, while cationic PUDs optimize pigment interaction and substrate adhesion in specific ink chemistries. Hybrid and self-crosslinking PUDs allow precise tuning of hardness, flexibility, block resistance and gloss, meeting the exact requirements of modern converting environments.

Acrylic Emulsions for Water-Based Ink Systems

Acrylic emulsions serve as reliable binders for water-based inks, coatings and overprint varnishes. They form flexible, resistant films that deliver strong adhesion, rub resistance and chemical protection, while supporting low-VOC formulations and the fast drying speeds required in high-throughput printing operations.

Self-crosslinking acrylic grades enhance film cohesion and durability, improving block resistance and long-term performance. Valued for clarity, gloss control, UV resistance and color retention, these systems contribute to high-quality graphics and stable finishes. Property modification with styrene or silicone further optimizes hardness, hydrophobicity and converting efficiency.

Adhesive Solutions for Specialized Packaging

The portfolio is complemented by Esacote® SB 13111, a solvent-based polyurethane designed for gravure and flexo lamination inks and compliant with GMP requirements.
For blister packaging applications, the Solucote® range offers ready-to-use waterborne polyurethane solutions engineered to ensure reliable bonding performance under real production conditions.
