Chemist for a day

Back at school

Back at school

After 2 long years  A day as Chemist ( "un giorno da Chimico in Lamberti")   is finally back in presence directly in the schools.  The initiative coordinated by Lamberti's employees   took place in Albizzate e Valdarno primary and secondary schools from 18th and 30th May, 2020.

The project was born in 2016 from the collaboration of Lamberti with the Municipality of Albizzate,  the city where our hystorical plant was settled more than 100 years ago  in 1911.

The initiative  has involved 140 students and their teachers  and was dedicated to discovering Chemistry by learning and experimenting directly at school.

Cinzia Trombino councilor delegated to public education has declared:
"Seeing on the faces of our students the curiosity and happiness in putting into practice what they have learned is priceless just as it is priceless to see their enthusiasm when they wear protective gowns, gloves and goggles, which have transformed them. into real little chemists. Who knows that one day there might not be someone among them who chooses to do this job ."

The youngest students (4th class) have been engaged with the experiments based on the concepts of solutions, phase separation, emulsions and surface tension using our surfactants.
They have also used starch and poly-vinyl-alcohol in funny experiments like quicksand and slime.

Classes of the 5th year in primary school have experienced what happens during the textile printing, one of the core activity of our group.

The students have first prepared colorful printing paste with our Viscolam® and then printed on cotton sheets producing fancy tissues with bright colors.
They have also produced colorful gel with our Carbocel® Carboxy-methyl cellulose (CMC).

First classes of the secondary school worked on pH and made filtration experiments to introduce the concepts of recycling water and that of preserving the environment. The process of  how a biological treatment plant works have been presented as well as the related concepts of microorganism and bacteria.
