What is the meaning of letters and numbers in the name of the products of CARBOCEL series (CMCs)?
They form the grade coding system of purified carboxymethyl cellulose The grade coding system is composed by two letters followed by a number. The first letter gives the type of substitution: • M : Medium DS in the range 0.75-0.95 • A : High DS, over 0.85 The second letter denotes at which percentage in deionized water solution the viscosity is measured: • B : 4% in water solution • M : 2% in water solution • A : 1% in water solution The number placed after this couple of letters, multiplied by 10, shows the product’s mean viscosity. In example: CARBOCEL MM 250 is a pure grade CMC having DS within 0.75 and 0.95 and an average viscosity of 2500 cP in 2% water solution.
Can REOTANs (polyacrilates) be used together with traditional deflocculants in tiles and white-ware production?
Yes. REOTANs develop a very strong synergy with silicates and/or phosphates. It is convenient to study blends to get the better cost/performance ratio.
Is it useful to add an antibacterial agent using CMC or Tixolam in sanitaryware glazes?
Yes. We do reccomend the use of a antibacterial agent (i.e. Carbosan) together with CMC or Tixolam, as they are made also of organic compounds, that can be deteriorated by the action of bacteria and other micro-organisms affecting the characteristics of the glaze (loss of viscosity and thixotropy).
