La celulosa es el polímero natural más difuso del mundo. La celulosa en sí es insoluble y podría utilizarse con dificultad en aplicaciones industriales.

Las modificaciones químicas de la celulosa pueden dar lugar a productos solubles que ofrecen una amplia gama de soluciones funcionales para muchas aplicaciones.
La carboximetilcelulosa (CMC) es probablemente el derivado más útil de la celulosa y Lamberti es uno de los principales fabricantes del mundo.

Lamberti inició la producción de CMC en 1958 y ha mejorado progresivamente sus procesos de producción y diferenciado la gama.
Hoy en día la marca CARBOCEL® cuenta con más de 50 derivados que difieren en el Grado de Sustitución, Peso Molecular, Grado de Purificación y consecuentemente en sus Applications y función de uso.

Main Applications

  • Surface Treatment: Cellulose-based thickeners for waterborne coatings, providing viscosity control and tailored rheological behaviour for decorative and protective applications.
  • Textile — Thickeners for reactive and disperse dye printing, with selected grades used as antimigration agents in fabric pretreatments for digital printing.
  • Ceramics — Binders and thickeners for glazes and engobes, controlling rheology and consolidating the unfired layer to support consistent glazing and reduce surface defects.
  • Food and Beverage — Purified cellulose gums for food and beverage formulations, providing thickening, stabilisation and water retention while improving texture and mouthfeel.
  • In H&PC it can be used in oral care, including toothpaste as well as as thickeners, stabilizers and anti-redeposition aids for detergent formulations. 
  • in Wet End Paper is used to enhance dry paper strength and support wet-strength performance.
  • Other applications include viscosifiers and fluid loss reducers for water-based drilling fluids used in oil and gas operations (Energy Solutions).
