Mobact Project
Varnish Formulations with antibacterial properties validated by Hospital la Fe in Valencia
The MOBACT project consists of developing bacteriostatic or bactericides varnish formulations for hospital furniture in order to reduce by up to a third the burden of Infections Related to Health Care (IRAS) that pose a health risk.
"Varnish formulations, containing Lamberti polyurethane emulsions (PUD), with antimicrobial activity have been successfully developed”, pointed out Ruth Cortés, who leads the project at the Lamberti Iberia application laboratories located in Onda.
Furniture produced with said bacteriostatic and/or bactericidal compounds has been positively validated at Hospital la Fe, in a real environment with unfavorable conditions and with the typical microorganisms faced by the infection control team of the medical center.
That is the result of a great work team, led by Lamberti Iberia research team, and made up of AIMPLAS · Technological Institute of Plastics; the Institute of Materials Technology of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), TAYG Industries and the Hospital La Fe Health Research Institute in Valencia. The project was approved by Agencia Valenciana de la Innovacio (AVI) and by Fondos Feder.
