From Theory to Practice: Building the Future of Industrial Chemistry
A technical workshop with students at UNIMI
Reading time: 2 min
Lamberti is renewing its collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Milano (UNIMI), actively contributing for the second year to the Advanced Industrial Chemistry Lab course the Master’s Degree in Industrial Chemistry, held by Prof. Marco Ortenzi.
This year initiative involved around twenty first-year students, who took part in a training experience designed to bridge academic knowledge with real industrial practice.
The activities were led by Max Giudici, head of Lamberti C.A.S.E. (Coating, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers ) Laboratory and Deborah D’Arrigo, senior scientist in the Acrylic Polymer Laboratory at Lamberti, who guided the students through a 3 days structured learning path, combining theory and hands-on experimentation.
The program started on 2 December 2025 with a theoretical and practical lecture focused on the properties and synthesis of acrylic dispersants in solution, followed by two days of laboratory work.
On 12 January 2026 students synthesized acrylic dispersants according to Lamberti’s guidelines.
On 13 January they characterized and applied the synthesized products, gaining insight into their properties and their practical use in industrial formulations.
This experience allowed students to directly engage with key aspects of industrial chemistry, deepening their understanding of formulation science and the technological challenges behind the development of functional materials for coatings and related applications.
Building on the success of last year’s initiative, this renewed collaboration once again highlights Lamberti’s commitment to supporting education, fostering collaboration between industry and academia, and helping train the next generation of industrial chemists through concrete, hands-on experiences.
